Mortgage approvals rise strongly in April

There is some good news for the housing market as the number of mortgages approved in April increased by 5.4 per cent to 44,000, according to UK Finance. This is their highest level since February 2017, with approvals for home purchase 8.6 per cent higher than in April 2018, while remortgage approvals rose by 2.2 per cent.

Given the ongoing political uncertainty surrounding Brexit, it is encouraging that buyers and sellers are shaking off some of the prevailing lethargy and getting on with their lives. The political shenanigans have gone on for too long, with no sign of resolution and there is only so long people can put decisions on hold, particularly significant ones such as buying a home.
