Estate agents, surveyors, conveyancers and removal firms being given the green light to re-open – within social distancing guidelines, of course – is welcome news not only for the property market but the wider economy. With a government estimate of more than 450,000 people unable to progress with their house move since lockdown restrictions were implemented, many will look forward to the housing market getting back to ‘business as usual’ as far as possible.
It will be interesting to see how the followings days and weeks pan out, but naïve to think it will be straightforward. Some people will be keen to move into their new homes as soon as possible, frustrated that the crisis has held them back a couple of months. However, inevitably, there will be others who have put plans to move on ice as it is no longer financially viable for them to do so. Others will be erring on the side of caution, wanting to sit back and see what, if anything, will happen to house prices.
